The American television series Arrow first premiered on October 10th, 2012, on The CW. The series was developed by Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim, and Greg Berlanti. The show is based on the comic series by DC called Green Arrow which was created by George Papp and Mort Weisinger. Both the comics and the television series revolve around the main character Oliver Queen, but in the TV show Oliver does not go by Green Arrow when he is in costume.

Arrow has come unto the scene more-or-less replacing The CW’s Smallville which ended in 2011, the year before Arrow debuted. The playboy billionaire Oliver Queen undergoes a life transforming event when he becomes marooned on an island after being a passenger in a terrible shipwreck. He lives on the island for five years where he is also presumed dead until he is finally rescued and brought home. A changed man, Oliver tries desperately to make amends for the wrongdoings of his past, particularly with his former girlfriend Laurel Lance. He had had an affair with Laurel’s own sister and she felt deeply betrayed by him. Before long Oliver is trying to reconcile his personal life while at the same time taking up the bow and arrow by night to fight crime and rid Starling City of evil. Arrow focuses on the more human-related aspects of Oliver Queen; like the life-changing experience of being stranded on the island and how it has changed him in different ways.

The primary cast of Arrow consists of Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen,Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance, and Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen.

Arrow was the highest-rated CW new series in five years and overall has been received favorably by viewers. It has received numerous nominations and three awards. The first season alone got around 3.68 million viewers. AMDb gives the series 8.2/10 stars. The pilot has been mentioned as being strong and clear. Reviewers say the action and acting are both believable and well done. Arrow can be enjoyed by those who don’t like comics or know who Green Arrow is as well as those who do. There are also those who know the comic book series but hate the television series and those who don’t know the comics but hate it, so whether or not you are interested in comics may have no affect on how you perceive Arrow. Critics say that they consider the acting to be poor in addition to the directing and writing. Those who do not like the series compare it to Twilight and Sex and the City, claiming that the show should be about a superhero and not the dramas that take place within the Queen circle. Ultimately whether or not Arrow is for you seems to come down to individual taste—you’ll just have to try it out if it seems like something you could be interested in, but there is a good chance you’ll enjoy it. You can watch this television program when you subscribe to Charter Internet and TV Deals.
